Keeping a toddler entertained can be a tough job. Of course silly faces, tickles and a game of chase will have them laughing away, but only for so long. When it comes to keeping Taylor entertained he wants interaction, he thrives on being able to get involved and contribute to the fun, rather than simply sitting back and watching as he used to.
A favourite of ours right now is puppets! I’d never in a million years have thought of puppets and maybe you wouldn’t either?
I’m a covert to puppet play and feel that everyone should have one for their toddlers. Think Wayne Szalinski from Honey I blew up the kid, minus the blowing up part, telling stories with Big Bunny. Creating silly scenarios and making funny voices is ridiculously fun.
When our lovely snowy owl puppet arrived in the post Taylor was beside himself with excitement.Mummy too, can you say Hedwig?! He can be used to tell stories or simply fly and make him giggle. Hi head rotates 360 and he’s very life like. It’s almost guaranteed to make Taylor smile in the midst of a meltdown too. The owl always makes Taylor giggle, maybe it’s my very poor owl impressions. He also loves to point out where his eyes and nose are which is cute.
Puppets by post sent us three types of puppets, puppets for telling stories, a puppet for play and a puppet for on the go which is kept in the car. I particularly like that the puppets come to your door as Taylor loves opening boxes at the moment, especially when they’re filled with new friends and I can’t say I’ve seen puppets like these on the high street either.
We’ve enjoyed reading The Gruffalos Child along with matching puppets and it adds a whole new dimension to the story. Taylor is easily distracted when we read stories and can often get bored if the story is long. With puppets he’s more than willing to listen to the whole story and watch as it’s acted out. The finger puppets are also the perfect size for Taylor. He likes to wear as many as possible, all at once.
My favourite Puppet so far has to be our car pet, he’s a wolf and he’s capable of calming a car journey storm within minutes. Keeping a puppet in the glove box sounds odd but it works. When you have a grumpy one year old who is bored and fed up its amazing how manny giggles a puppet can create.
Do you use puppets as a form of play in your home?
Who knew a box of puppets could bring so much entertainment and joy. You can see the whole range of puppets at www.puppetsbypost.com with prices starting from £3.50 upwards their’s a puppet for everyone. Stay tuned to see what puppet fun we get up to.
