Upon finding out you’re going to be parents their are so many things that run through your mind. From the self doubt that you’re parent material to the enormous list of baby things you’ll need to buy. For us one of the most important things was insurance. You read that correctly, insurance. Life insurance was something I personally hadn’t thought about but it was high on the agenda for Phillip. If something were to happen to one of us we needed cover, even more so when we’ve added a child into the equation.
Zurich have launched the Value Your World Tool. A handy web application that takes all of your details in a few simple steps, add’s up the value of your world, and tells you what insurance rate you could get.
Using the application is simple, it asks you what you’re worth, in a literal sense. Your home, yourdebts, your children’s education, how much you’d like to leave behind as a legacy. It’s not a happy subject but one that cannot be ignored.
After giving key information the applications told me how much I would need to cover within my lifetime. That’s to pay off my mortgage, pay for Taylor to grow up, support Phillip if I were gone and allow them to be comfortable.
The Application is able to take thi information and give a quote on life insurance based on key information and what matters to you. Our biggest ticket item is the house, we’re about to take out our first mortgage so I included the full value of our home. As we’re about to make this big change in our lives it might also be a good idea for us to revaluate our insurance and make sure we’re cover.
Although Phillip was the one who decided we needed to take out insurance when we became parents the job to find it and take out a plan was left to me. I spent weeks, literally weeks looking online at insurance, what’s critical illness cover? Do I need? Will it cover my mortgage if something were to happen to one of us? Do we take out joint insurance or singular? It was a minefield. Had the Zurich Value Your World tool been around at the time I would have found the entire process to be far easier.
