Taylor has been weaning for a few months now and it’s safe to say my baby loves food! We decided to approach weaning with a combination of Babyled weaning and spoon feeding Purée giving Taylor the opportunity to experience all types of tastes and textures.
So far their haven’t been many foods Taylor hasn’t enjoyed, however I still find he doesn’t eat much when feeding himself solid foods. I’ll give him a light lunch of finger foods he can enjoy himself alongside being breastfed but evening meals we’re giving him puréed meals to ensure he goes to bed with a happy full tummy. This also helps to ensure he sleeps well.
We kick start each day with a bowl of baby porridge, Strawberry is his favourite, this keeps Taylor satisfied for a few hours and gives him plenty of energy to play. I’ll let him have a small snack such as fruit between breakfast and lunch to keep him going. The Vital Baby Food Pots are the perfect size for a serving of porridge or portion of fruit and come with lids in the event of any left-overs.
Lunch can be anything from steamed veggies such as carrots and broccoli to pieces of chicken, pancakes, or toast. I always include a portion of fruit for after. Taylor’s current favourite is raspberries which he loves to squish in his hands before eating. So far the only food he has completely refused to eat is Salmon which I myself am not a fan of so I don’t blame him! I use the Vital Baby Weaning Set bowl for lunch and dinner as it holds more than the food pots, it’s also really useful if you need to have lunch on the go as it has a lid and holds a spoon.
The Vital Baby spoons are our favourite so far as they have soft tips and are easy for both mummy and baby to hold. Taylor is yet to master getting it to his mouth by himself, but you’ve got to love a trier with a pea covered face!
We’ve taken to making our own baby purée and I like knowing what’s in the food we give to Taylor, the idea seemed rather daunting at first but once you get going it’s so simple! Especially with the Vital Baby Press ‘n’ Pop Freezer Pots to store a batch in the freezer, they’re perfect!
I also use them for yoghurts if we’re going out. One Press ‘n’ Pop Freezer pot fits a small fromage freis perfectly and I don’t have to worry about bursting yoghurt in the changing bag.
One of our favourite recipes is Potato, Carrot and Sweetcorn purée, I’ll be sharing a post with the recipe we use for anyone wanting to give it a try. It’s a really tasty one and I have to stop myself from eating it whilst feeding Taylor!
Overall I think Taylor is doing really well with weaning, I don’t pressure him into eating if he doesn’t want to as he is still having multiple breastfeeds a day. I’m all the for the saying food is just for fun before one, he’s still gaining weight and developing perfectly so we have no worries. Just one very happy little boy learning to love food.
We’ve been using The Vital Baby Weaning Essentials bundle a great set especially for new parents like myself who haven’t done anything like this before, it contains everything you need to get started on your weaning journey for £9.99, we’ve found each item to be of use and loved having everything in one kit. You can also purchase each product separately in multiples.
